What is Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on therapy targeting a physiological body system called the craniosacral system. This system consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.
It was developed by an osteopathic doctor and professor of Biomechanic studies, named John Upledger. He discovered a system that was able to release restrictions in the craniosacral system using a soft touch with no greater what 5 grams of pressure to alleviate pain and improve the functioning of the central nervous system.

What can it be used for?
According to the Upledger Institute, CST is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including:
- Migraine Headaches
- Chronic Neck and Back Pain
- Motor-Coordination Impairments
- Central Nervous System Disorders
- Orthopedic Problems
- Concussions and Traumatic Brain Injuries
- Spinal Cord Injuries
- Scoliosis
- Chronic Fatigue
- Emotional Difficulties
- Stress and Tension-Related Problems
- Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders
- Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
- Neurovascular or Immune Disorders
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Post-Surgical Dysfunction
What does CST feel like?
CST is a very relaxing experience. It helps to switch your mode of function into a parasympathetic response. The parasympathetic system is responsible for the “rest and digest” mode of the autonomic nervous system, it helps to keep you calm and relaxed.
Everyone has very different and unique experiences with CST. Some people can tune into their cerebrospinal fluid rhythm or minute adjustments of their cranial bones. Everyone feels relaxed afterwards and generally sleeps more soundly after a treatment.
